Headworks

All raw wastewater (influent) is pumped from over 100 pump stations (lift stations) located through out our service area. The influent is received by the Headworks of our plant. The headworks consists of two rotating screens and a grit removal system. The screens are each rated for a peak flow of 8 Million Gallons per Day (MGD) and remove large particles such as mop strings, rags, or other large debris.
Grit is inorganic substances such as sand. A benefit of grit removal is that it reduces solids loading on the downstream processes and also reduces the amount of wear and tear on pumps and other equipment.
The screened particles and the grit are both dumped into a 20-yard dumpster for final disposal at a landfill.
