Ensuring Effluent Quality
A number of operational checks are performed on each system on a daily basis. Laboratory control tests are performed daily to make sure conditions are suitable for the bacteria treating the wastewater. These lab control tests include total suspended solids, settleability, chlorine residual, dissolved oxygen concentration, ammonia concentration, nitrate concentration, microscopic analysis, and many others. All these tests allow the operator to confirm proper operation of the plant. The operator may also determine if a condition might be developing where changes must be made before effluent quality is affected.
A telemetry system is used that allows a computer to monitor all stages of treatment. If equipment problems develop, the computer will page an operator alerting the operator to check out the affected system.
